05/12/2009 The wet spring has left a lot of standing water throughout the District; ideal for the development of mosquitoes, especially nuisance species. We have been out treating many of the sites that have larvae developing in them. It is likely we will have a significant population of nuisance mosquitoes showing up when the weather gets warm. Our mosquito traps are up and monitoring the mosquito population. Testing mosquitoes for the presence of West Nile Virus(WNV) will begin shortly. At this time, transmission of WNV to humans is very unlikely.
